Muthoga, Gaturu & Co. [MG&Co.] was established on 11th June 1975 by the two founding partners, Judge Lee G. Muthoga SC and Mr. Evans T. Gaturu. Currently, the firm comprises of Seven (7) Partners, Six (6) Associates and a number of paralegal secretarial and management staff. The partners are:

John Mutungi

John MUTUNGI

John is a Senior Partner, and the current Managing Partner. He heads the Firm’s Commercial Law and Conveyancing Department.  He was admitted to partnership in January 1986 and specialises in property transfers, securities documentation, cross border Mergers and Acquisitions, transnational transactions, corporate finance and international labour law. John has significant practical experience in these areas, having been the Lead Counsel on most of the consultancies the Firm has undertaken. patrick mwiti

Patrick MWITI

Patrick is a Senior Partner, and is the current head of the Firm’s Litigation and ADR Department. He is a seasoned litigator, and also a qualified professional Arbitrator. He is the Firm’s leading expert in Arbitration and ADR, and has extensive experience in national and international arbitrations. A holder of a Masters Degree in Environment and Natural Resources Law, Patrick also commands extensive practical experience in procurement law and regulations, in particular as applicable to state owned and/or influenced public corporations. pmwiti@mgmail.co.ke

James OKEYO

James is a Partner in the Firm’s Litigation and ADR Department. He was admitted into the Firm’s partnership in January 2001, and mandated to restructure its branch office at Nyeri to give it a modern and corporate image in line with the Firm’s vision and mission, a task he successfully completed. James is presently the Partner in charge of the Firm’s ICT Committee charged with developing the ICT department and competencies. James has significant experience in litigation, having specialised in court ligation. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and represents clients in arbitral proceedings.

Della MWIHAKI

Della is a Partner in the Firm’s Litigation and ADR Department. She was admitted into partnership in January 2001. She specializes in civil litigation, insurance law, all aspects of commercial law litigation, and professional negligence claims. Della chairs the Firm’s Administration and Staff Welfare Committee charged with responsibilities of Staff Training and Human Resources development to meet the challenges of the ever changing legal practice scene. dmwihaki@mgmail.co.ke

Patrick RUGO

Rugo is a Partner in the Firm’s Commercial Law and Conveyancing Department. He was admitted into partnership in January, 2011. He was previously with the Firm from his admission to the Roll of Advocates on 25th May, 2000 until July, 2005, when he joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, and subsequently the firm of Chiuri Kirui & Rugo, Advocates until 31st December, 2010. Rugo has extensive experience in commercial and corporate law practice, in particular cross border acquisitions and mergers, corporate restructurings and reorganizations, joint ventures, and advising start-up and early stage businesses. Remigeo MUGAMBI

Mugambi is the Resident Partner in charge of the Firm’s branch office at Nyeri. He was admitted into partnership in January, 2009. Besides being in charge of the Firm’s branch’s administration, Mr. Mugambi has been in charge of non-litigious legal work as well active litigation in a wide variety of legal issues ranging from Criminal Law, Divorce & Family Law, Employment Law, Contract and Commercial Litigation, Succession and Land Law. He is the serving Chairperson of the Nyeri Bar Association, and the regional representative to the Council of the Mount Kenya Law Society. rmugambi@mgmail.co.ke

Catherine MPUTHIA

Catherine is a Partner in the Firm’s Commercial Law and Conveyancing Department. She was admitted into partnership in January 2011. She has extensive experience in commercial law, including transfer of businesses and assets, joint ventures, incorporation of companies and all related issues, and legal advisory services to co-operative societies and non-governmental organizations. Catherine is a registered Patent Agent. Besides registration of Trade Marks on behalf of clients, she handles Intellectual Property cases and disputes. cmputhia@mgmail.co.ke
